Yesterday was our start of this intriguing journey ..
After leaving home “on schedule!” at 5.30am we met Adrian & Rentia at our rendezvous point on top of Ou kaapse weg and started our journey.
The journey north to the border at Vioolsdrift was faultless
– witnessed a beautiful start to the day with sunrise near Morreesburg
– stopped at Kardoesie on Piekernierskloof for breakfast
The border crossing on South Africa side was relatively easy – the process is a game that involves the collection of stamps – similar to the similar to the first loyalty program, believed to have been the S&H Green Stamps program, launched in the late 19th century and distributed as part of a rewards program operated by the Sperry & Hutchinson Company. The program involved the earning of stamps one could collect and then trade-in for a variety of goods/rewards – so in this case of border crossing the reward is to get through the last hurdle where your completed form is handed in ….
so it has an extra step with the COVID testing so it goes like this:
– it starts first a visit to the Health section “COVID” declaration, then immigration for “person” entry i.e. passport stamp then customs for vehicles
on entry of Namibia the extra steps are third party insurance and then a vehicle screening stepĀ which in our case was further complicated with our carnet insurance ….
enough of that – we got through into an amazing country dry in the south and then green
We arrived just at sunset for our overnight stay at Savanah guest farm
After two amazing veggie curries (well done Jules) we had an early night
The next morning we had an early walk up a nearby hill – photos in next blog
Jules in action “on the road” of day 2
Being entertained by Arlo Guthrie singing “Alices Restaurant” and Josh Groban singing “Let me fall’ from Cirque du Soleil.
We have a hard drive with a full set of all CDs in our collection
The message from “Let me fall” is well worth contemplation and meditation – reminded me of winessing this being performed in St Louis, Missouri, USA with Alfredo & Judy Legorreta
“Let Me Fall (From Cirque Du Soleil)”
Let me climb
There’s a moment when fear
And dreams must collideSomeone I am
Is waiting for courage
The one I want
The one I will become
Will catch me
So let me fall
If I must fall
I won’t heed your warnings
I won’t hear them
Let me fall
If I fall
Though the phoenix may
Or may not rise
I will dance so freely
Holding on to no one
You can hold me only
If you too will fall
Away from all these
Useless fears and chains
Someone I am
Is waiting for my courage
The one I want
The one I will become
Will catch me
So let me fall
If I must fall
I won’t heed your warnings
I won’t hear
Let me fall
If I fall
There’s no reason
To miss this one chance
This perfect moment
Just let me fall
