We signed up for a workaway project with https://www.workaway.info/ and our first project was at Eagles Rest where we worked for 3 weeks..
Eagles Rest consists of 4 hectares of beautiful countryside, nestled in a secluded wooded area on the shores of the Lake with beach frontage and magnificent views across to the Matusodona Mountains.
It was built in the early 1950s and has 12 chalets, a beach bar, small conference facilities and a campsite. COVID hit hard and the resort has struggled. This year has been better with steady weekends bookings.

Tom and Jo and their 4 (of 7) kids (and 5 dogs) have managed the resort for the last 2 years and are trying to fix and improve the facilities on a very limited budget!
This is Jules with the grand old Great Dane “Chief” who used to be top dog
and this is “Shpitz” – the current top dog – – the other dogs seem to obey this top dog – you can see why
We loved our time there… our campsite was in a secluded spot overlooking an inlet with lovely view and stunning sunsets!
We worked Mon to Friday and helped with a whole range of things from campsite electric rewiring and plumbing, chalet maintenance, main house electric fixes, chalet inventory audit and snags, laundry reorganization, kids room clean up and reupholstery of chairs!

Our typical day started at between 7 and 7.30 and then we worked until about 5 with a lunch and breakfast stop – we were provided with an evening meal on the days we worked and then cooked for our selves on weekends

On the first Saturday morning we went to Chirundu and explored the lower Zambezi (Below the Kariba dam wall) – next post
