Camino de Santiago .. almost there

  • Barry

Today is our last day in the Uk ?? – tomorrow we fly to Biarritz, France on Ryanair. We leave Maidenhead at 7 catch the new Elizabeth line to paddington then on to Liverpool station then the Stansted express to Stansted airport

Elizabeth Line to Paddington Liverpool St Station then Stansted express

The big trick is deciding how to keep the backpack below 10kg – remembering that we will have to add water – so the weight on our feet will be about 12kg

What clothes and what other do we take?

Leaving Terry’s safe haven – moving into the unkown

After the short walk to Maidenhead station we patched in to the train system using our credit cards ( no more tickets) then onto the New Elizabeth line train

On the train

We successfully negotiated our way on the British rail system where there was a delay on the underground. We checked google maps and didn’t go the original plan of Paddington then liverpool station – got off at Ealing broadway and got to Liverpool street station with 7 minutes to go to get from the underground to platform 5 on to the Stansted express

We go there with 4 minutes to spare – the conductor at the gate said nonchalantly what the rush there is plenty of time ? We didn’t think so and breathed a big sigh of relief when finally on the train. The trains are neat modern and have USB ports??. We checked after plastic wrapping out haversacks and to our joy the bags were 9.2kg each (without water) – we will be carrying 1.6 to 2 liters of water each

On board

We were met in Biarritz by Julian from express Bourricot who drive 6 of us through to St Jean Pied de Port (SJPP)

And then got our first glance of the section the Pyrenees we will be walking through
