We left Ncorongoro Simba A campsite in heavy mist – the viewpoint into the crater was shrouded in mist so visibility was zero – luckily we had been into the crater the day before
In Simba A campsite we chatted to fellow campers (the couple we met at the Naabi hill gate exit) in a pink Iveco Overland truck and they told us about a great cafe in Karatu (the first town outside the crater area) called Lilac cafe.
So after some hectic mist driving down the crater rim we refueled in Karatu also re-inflated tyres and visited Lilac cafe – what a great cafe – well worth a stop – apart from great food and juices and a clean toilet they also have wine and art in sale ( www.lilactanzania.com)
We travelled in to Mto Wa Mbu and camped at Migombani campsite at the entrance to the town (crater end)
what a great campsite
even has an infinity pool overlooking Lake Manyara
We shopped at the Masaai market for masaai blankets but were not comfortable with the experience – aggressive haggling and very high starting prices
Moving on from Mto Wa Mbu we were pleased with the road conditions and headed for Arusha
You are posting such valuable insights for anyone wanting to follow in your footsteps- thank you both.
Thank you – it is also great for our recall of a most wonderful African experience
